The 2nd Annual event for San Diego Museum Council: Kids Free in October is nearly here! San Diego Museum Council invites kids to explore San Diego's diverse museums for Free! From October 1–31, 36 museums will offer free admissions to kids 12 and under with a paid adult this October 2012 in San Diego County.
To participate, families must download a coupon available on the SDMC website www.sandiegomuseumcouncil.org and present it at participating museums to receive the offer.
(The offer is limited to two children per paid adult admission ticket and does not include special events/exhibits or field trips.)
Research from the American Association of Museums points to the important role museums play in a child’s education, making back-to-school season an ideal time for the Kids Free in October campaign. The event also helps families bridge the education gap left by recent budget cutbacks to school field trips. Here in San Diego, we have so many different museums, I hope that you'll get to have a family outing to go exploring.
Here is a list of 36 Kids Free in October participating museums:
Barona Cultural Center & Museum, Birch Aquarium at Scripps, California Surf Museum, Coronado Museum of History & Art, Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum, Gaslamp Museum at William H. Davis House, Heritage of the Americas Museum, Japanese Friendship Garden, La Jolla Historical Society, Living Coast Discovery Center, Lux Art Institute, Marston House Museum & Gardens, Mingei International Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Museum of Making Music, Museum of Photographic Arts, Oceanside Museum of Art, Reuben H. Follow along with Foxy's Pash on Twitter and Facebook. These are the cutest containers ever! No wonder they won an award for that. We all had a nice after school treat when these arrived at our door. Of course we tried a scoop of each (ok I only tried three flavors). My fave was the Sneaky Pash, of wildberry and chocolate flakes. My oldest loves mango but I think her fave was the Naughty honeycomb and caramel chunks. My youngest ones just liked them all, lol. Anyway, these were really good, and as a now healthier nut that I am, I liked that these are guilt free.
I don't know if you can clearly see the list: The Naughty Pash, Honeycomb & Caramel Chunks says under the allergens that it may contain traces of egg, wheat and soy. As a Celiac you can not trust that that it is 100% GF. Any little bit of wheat/soy gluten trace/cross contamination will affect you. Here let me zoom in:

I was a little curious as to what my kids would think of these. SO, I sort of didn't tell them exactly what flavors there were. Though they love broccoli and sweet potatoes I wanted to see if they'd be able to taste it. Guess they had no clue! Since I wasn't able to taste these (they have wheat in them) I did smell them and boy do those Lemon Broccoli snacks smell like a lemon cooler cookie! The Sweet Potato Oatmeal Raisin snacks were like a spice cookie. They loved them!

For my recipe review of this Baking with Friends, I made my family her Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies and later turned them into Pumpkin Ice Cream Sandwiched Cookies. They loved them!

Alexandra's Pizza - Known for its pizza probably not for its chicken wings.
Location:1263 Queen St.
Halifax, NS B3J 1M5 Canada +1 902-425-1900 Map
Critique:
For some reason I always have to order something different. When a place has the word "pizza" in its name you should take it as a hint to order the pizza, they are probably pretty good at it. Instead I was craving chicken wings and a donair (Eastern Canadian speciality, maybe even created in Halifax - see: History of the donair) and because of those cravings ended up with what had to be the worst chicken wings I have eaten (or in this case attempted to eat.)
I like my chicken wings to be large, plump and juicy. Cooked in the sauce to help lock in the flavor. The wings from Alexandra's were overcooked, small and had all of the sauce on the side. It was like eating leather off of a bone. Honestly they didn't even taste like chicken, which is what really turned me off of them. I ended up only being able to stomach one wing and threw the rest away.

| I don't have a picture to adquetly describe how the chicken wings looked, but I think this image gets the point across (image taken from pita.org) |
As for the donair, well in the traditional sense it was really a Kabab Donar which uses lambs meet instead of beef. I was disappointed to see the lambs meet (I like this version as well) but I was really looking forward to the "Halifax Donair" with a spicy sweet garlic sauce and seasoned beef, but instead I ended up with lambs meet in Tzatziki sauce. Needless to say my overall experience was not good.

Domino's Pizza - Not just pizza anymore.
Location: 156 W 1230 N
Provo, UT 84604 801-418-1100
Price of Meal:
8 Wings $5.99
2 Topping Medium Pizza $5.99
$11.98 + tax
Critique:
As I was sitting on my couch watching TV a commercial for Domino's Pizza came on. The commercial is called The Man Behind the Chicken.
Being hungry and a sucker for chicken wings I decided I was going to get some. The only problem, I didn't know where the Domino's in my town was. Good thing I have the Internet. When I went to Domino's site, I clicked on the deal I had seen on TV. A 2 topping medium pizza and 8 chicken wings for $5.99 each. The first thing that came up was an online ordering system. I was able to complete my whole order online with very little effort. After placing the order they provided a tracking page that allows me to see how far along my order was. Talk about speeding up the ordering and pickup process. For a guy who spends a lot of time online, this is a genius idea and it makes me wonder why everyone else isn't doing it.
I ordered my favorite pizza, Pineapple and Pepperoni and I got it on their garlic-seasoned crust, and 8 of their Sweet Mango Habanero wings. They actually offer 4 different flavors: Hot, Sweet Mango Habanero, BBQ and Plain. They also came with one free dipping sauce (Kicker Hot Sauce, Sweet Mango Habanero, BBQ, and Ranch), which I applaud because it seems like more and more establishments are starting to charge for the little things like dipping sauce. See: Wing Coop, Little Caesars.
I will be honest, my expectations for the wings were pretty low. I haven't had wings from a franchise pizza joint that I have really liked. To my surprise the wings were actually pretty good. The sauce was thick and in abundance. The wings were nether too sweet, or too hot, but were balanced very well. There was just enough heat to get my nose running after a few wings, but not enough to cause my mouth to be on fire. The ranch dressing dipping sauce had a nice zip to it that complimented the wings very nicely. The pizza was by far the best Domino's pizza I have had to date, which tells me they really are trying to make their pizza better. The sauce was good, the pepperonis were yummy, and the pineapple was slightly roasted (from baking) and sweet. My only real complaint was that I think there was too much sauce which gave it a slight soggy texture. My biggest surprise though was the crust. I LOVED the crust. I literally was looking forward to eating the crust. Usually the crust is an afterthought and most of the times it is never eaten. The crust was light and airy, with a nice hint of garlic and creamy butter. I would buy a pizza with no toppings just to have the crust. It think they call those bread sticks. The next time I order I will have to get some bread sticks to see if they are the same.
I guess it just goes to show that the power of advertising really does work. If it wasn't for me not eating dinner until really late and a Domino's commercial showing great tasting food, I may never had tried Domino's Pizza, and I would have been missing out on one of the easiest ordering experiences of my life, not to mention probably the best pizza crust I have had.
